Items include a letter to Gideon Welles from Samuel Ingham regarding county commissioners, 1842; a letter from Loren P. Waldo to Daniel Webster about problems with warrants for prisoners at the state prison, 1857; a letter to Calvin Philleo of Suffield, from Elisha Hunt about the nomination of Loren P. Waldo at the Democratic Convention, 1849; a letter from Elisha Coe to the state comptroller about the need for uniform assessment returns, 1819; shipping directions, 1836, and a letter to Williams, Orton, Preston & Company about the order, shipment and payment of clocks, 1839; an order from R. Kimberly in Ansonia to Gallup (?) & Green of Norwich about an order for timepieces and clocks, 1859; a highway assessment list for Hebron, 1839; bills and correspondence to Charles Hoadley, State Librarian, for law books, digests and other publications, 1862; a regret to an invitation to attend a meeting of the Connecticut Association in Boston, 1857; an order regarding a shortage of skunk skins received, 1874; a testimonial for a prospective teacher, Miss A.A. Hosmer of Woodstock, 1829; several letters discussing family news among assorted families; a quit claim deed regarding rights to build a wharf in Chatham, 1809; two letters to Charles B. Merriman of Waterbury, 1842, 1849; and several letters about various business matters. Documents in the collection span the dates 1755 to 1897.

Philleo was a practicing lawyer and a politician. He was initially a Democrat, became a Free-Soiler in 1849 and eventually returned to the Democratic party.
